Kenney, Burckel Join Commission

At its June meeting, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission welcomed two new members: Anne R. Kenney and Nicholas C. Burckel. Dr. Burckel was appointed by President Clinton as one of his two representatives, succeeding Charles Palm, whose term had expired. Ms. Kenney was appointed by the Society of American Archivists, succeeding John Fleckner, whose term had expired.

Ms. Kenney is Associate Director of the Department of Preservation and Conservation of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She has a B.A. degree from Duke University, an M.A. degree in history from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and an M.A.L.S. degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Special training programs in which she also has participated include the NHPRC Historical Editing Institute. She has held positions as the field supervisor of a project to document black women in America, manuscript specialist in a university library, Associate Director of the Joint Collection of the University of Missouri's Western Historical Manuscript Collection and the State Historical Society of Missouri Manuscripts, and Conservation Liaison Librarian at Cornell, where she now works with its entire eighteen-library system. She is the author of more than thirty books, articles, and special reports on archival and historical subjects; has been honored with awards and fellowships; has reviewed grant applications for the NHPRC, among other funders; and has been active in several professional associations. She is a former president of the Society of American Archivists.

Ms. Kenney

Anne R. Kenney is the Society of American Archivists' new representative to the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. Kenney is Associate Director of the Department of Preservation and Conservation of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Dr. Burckel is Director of Libraries and Adjunct Associate Professor of History at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has a B.A. degree in history Kenney, Burckel Join Commission from Georgetown University, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an M.L.S. degree from that university. He has held positions as an archivist, librarian, professor, and administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, the University of Chicago, Washington University, and the University of Missouri-Columbia, as well as Marquette. He is the author or editor of seven books, and has published numerous articles and reviews on archival and historical subjects. He has administered grants from the NHPRC, among other funders; has been honored with awards and fellowships; has reviewed grant applications for the NHPRC; and has been active in several professional associations. He was recently elected to succeed Commissioner Brenda Banks as president of the Society of American Archivists.

Nicholas Burckel

Nicholas N. Burckel is the National Historical Publications and Records Commission's newest Presidential appointee. Burckel is Director of Libraries at Marquette University.
