Extension Requests

Extension Requests

Occasionally, grantees find that they cannot complete the work on their project in the agreed-upon timeframe. An extension of the grant period may be requested if it is absolutely necessary to conclude the project. You must request the extension prior to the time the grant period ends, but not more than 2 months before that scheduled end. All financial and narrative reports must be up to date before an extension will be considered. No more than two extensions will normally be granted.

Contact your assigned program officer who will take you through the process. The request for an extension must be signed by the grant-receiving institution's authorized representative as indicated on the grant application form (SF 424).
