In 1860 the Kansas Legislative Assembly submitted Kansas's fourth constitution to Congress—the Wyandot (or Wyandotte) anti-slavery constitution—which the Kansas voters approved by referendum on October 4, 1859. This became the official constitution of Kansas upon statehood in 1861.
