Great Lakes Region, Chicago and Dayton

Federal Records Center Holdings

The Great Lakes Region's Federal Records Centers (FRC) are an essential component of the National Archives and Records Administration's services to the Federal government. Our FRCs provide records storage services for Federal agencies in the Great Lakes Region.

The program is administered by a professional staff familiar with your program, your records, and your records management needs.

  • Access to all records at the facilities is controlled by the agency of origin.

  • Our Chicago facility maintains approximately 750,000 cartons of records transferred for temporary storage from Federal agencies located in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. There are 3.5 million cartons at Dayton's two FRC locations, transferred from Federal agencies in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, and from certain IRS Service Centers.

  • The centers in Chicago and Dayton provide other related services, such as courtesy storage for Members of Congress.   Learn More

  • We are a cost-effective organization committed to providing quality customer service using the latest information technology systems at record center locations nationwide, governed by Public Law 106-58.

  • Agency records stay in the Federal Records Center, where they are tracked through an automated database, until they are either destroyed through recycling or accepted by the Regional Archives as permanent records.

All Federal agency records maintained at each Great Lakes facility are governed by the Code of Federal Regulations. Also, all Federal agency records management and interaction with the facility is governed by the Code of Federal Regulations as it relates to records management.
