Records Released in Litigation

The National Archives and Records Administration has released these operational records in response to several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that have been the subject of civil litigation.

Citizens United v. National Archives and Records Administration [NGC15-245]

The following group of documents was released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in response to a June 12, 2015 request for correspondence, schedules, memoranda, attendee lists and any other records related to the planning, attendance and methodology used by NARA when it undertook an April 2015 review of certain emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in order to determine whether they constituted records under the Federal Records Act (FRA) or were personal, non-FRA records. Cause of Action Institute v. National Archives and Records Administration and William J. Clinton Presidential Library [NGC15-364]

The following group of documents was released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in response to a September 14, 2015 request to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library seeking all communications between the Clinton Library Director and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and any of her agents or representatives, as well as all communications between the Clinton Library Director and NARA relating to the records of former Secretary Clinton. NARA Evaluates Department of State’s Records Management Policy and Implementation

The National Archives and Records Administration’s Office of the General Counsel (NGC) released 47 separate multi-paged documents in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for records related to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email account. The documents address Department of State records management practices and consist of emails, handwritten notes, and other correspondence.
