Workshops at Kansas City

The National Archives at Kansas City is pleased to offer professional development in-service programs for school districts within our region. While there is no charge for any workshop or materials supplied, overnight stays may have to be paid for by the requesting school district. Most workshops can also be provided via video conferencing.

Using Online Resources of the National Archives

In this workshop teachers will be exposed to the online educational resources of the National Archives including: DocsTeach.org, Our Documents, Online Exhibits, our online main catalog, and more! Learn how to locate online primary source documents to use in the classroom.

  • 60 (minimum)–90 minutes
  • On-site at your school in a computer lab setting so that each participant can have their own computer.

Hands-On History: Incorporating Primary Sources in the Classroom

Once you have found primary source documents to use in the classroom, then what? In this workshop, teachers will discover how to integrate documents into classroom instruction to reinforce historical thinking skills through a variety of teacher-tested techniques. Workshop participants will also engage in document analysis activities and participate in group activities that show how to develop lessons from primary source documents.

  • 60 (minimum)–90 minutes
  • On-site at your school in a classroom setting
