Kansas City, (MO)…The National Archives at Kansas City will host author Virgil Dean at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, for a discussion of John Brown to Bob Dole: Movers and Shakers in Kansas History. Dean who served as editor of the publication, will be available to sign copies of John Brown to Bob Dole after the discussion. A 6:00 p.m. reception will precede the event. The National Archives at Kansas City is located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO.
Kansas history is bursting with stories of individuals who made a difference to the nation, including reformers, preachers, publishers, and artists. Over two dozen notable men and women, spanning 150 years of Kansas and American history are brought to life by Dean and his fellow authors. These figures influenced citizens to action over political, social, and economic problems.
Dean is the editor of Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains and a native of Franklin County, Kansas. He has been researching and writing about Kansas and regional history for more than twenty years. For eighteen of those years, he has been editor of Kansas History, the quarterly publication of the Kansas State Historical Society. A former social studies teacher in the public schools of Kansas, Dean received his Master of Arts in American History from Emporia State University in 1981 and his Ph.D. in U. S. History from the University of Kansas in 1991.

The National Archives at Kansas City is one of 13 facilities nationwide where the public has access to Federal archival records. The National Archives at Kansas City is open Tuesday–Saturday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. for exhibits viewing and Tuesday–Saturday from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. for research.
