Kansas City, (MO)... The National Archives at Kansas City will host at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, Don Lambert for a discussion of the Topeka/Free-State Constitution in conjunction with U.S. Constitution Day and its relation to the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The public is encouraged to view The Kansas-Nebraska Act exhibit at the National Archives at Kansas City, located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO.
Lambert's presentation will highlight the Topeka or "Free-State" Constitution written in the fall of 1855 and ratified by voters in December. It was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives but failed in the Senate. These actions were at the height of the border conflict happening along the Missouri and Kansas state line and greatly impacted the lives of those living in the Kansas Territory.
Lambert is a historical interpreter and re-enactor often portraying well known American artist John Steuart Curry, best known for his mural of John Brown in the Kansas Statehouse. In 2007 he was nominated by former Kansas Governor Katheleen Sebelius and received the National Governors Association Arts Award for art promotion. Lambert possesses a BA in Journalism and a Masters degree in American Studies, he is a former resident of Topeka and currently lives in Kansas City.
