Girl Scout Day at the National Archives at Kansas City![]()
Kansas City, (MO)…You don't have to go to Washington, DC, to visit the National Archives! The National Archives at Kansas City will host area Girl Scout Troops on Saturday October 3, 2009.
The National Archives has over 50,000 cubic feet of important historical documents, photos, maps, charts, and even films dating from the 1820s to the 1990s from Federal agencies and courts in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota. The education staff at the National Archives will help troops understand why local history is important and how students can use archival records for family history research or school projects.
Tours will include a special behind the scenes look at some of our documents and an activity. This tour will coordinate with the requirements for several badges. Advance registration is required; sign up early!
Date and time: Saturday, October 3, 2009, tours will be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The National Archives at Kansas City is one of 13 facilities nationwide where the public has access to Federal archival records. It is home to more than 50,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from the 1820s to the 1990s created or received by nearly 100 Federal agencies. Serving the Central Plains Region, the archives holds records from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The facility is located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO 64108. The National Archives at Kansas City is open Tuesday–Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. for exhibits viewing and Tuesday–Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. for research.
