Kansas City, (MO)…The National Archives at Kansas City will host at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, U.S. District Court Judge Scott Wright for a discussion and signing of his book Never in Doubt: Memoirs of an Uncommon Judge. A 6:00 p.m. reception will precede the event. The National Archives at Kansas City is located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO.
Wright’s book highlights his journey to becoming a Federal judge and his experiences while on the bench. With a career spanning multiple decades, Wright tried a variety of cases from organized-crime to death penalty convictions to business litigation. His candid and conversation approach makes this autobiography a memorable read.
Wright served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1943 and then in the U.S. Marine Corps as an aviator from 1943-1946. After his service during World War II he attended the University of Missouri and graduated with his law degree in 1950. He practiced law in Columbia, Missouri for 29 years including four years as the Boone County prosecutor before being appointed as a United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri by President Jimmy Carter on October 5, 1979. From 1985-1990 he served as Chief Judge in the Western District of Missouri and gained Senior Status in 1991. He has been chairman of the Eighth Circuit Pattern Jury Instruction Committee since 1983. Wright is a former Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation and was also awarded the prestigious Whittaker Award by the Lawyers Association of Kansas City in 2006.
