The Kansas City Store at the National Archives will be collecting canned food items from August 10 – August 22, 2009.
Kansas City, (MO)…The National Archives at Kansas City and The Kansas City Store are partnering to lend a helping hand to Harvesters. In support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Summer of Service campaign, The Kansas City Store at the National Archives will be collecting canned food items from August 10 – August 22, 2009. In exchange for a (minimum) three-can donation, visitors will receive a 15% off discount on their total shopping purchase at The Kansas City Store. Donations received through the drive will help Harvesters’ network feed those in need throughout Kansas City. The National Archives and The Kansas City Store are located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO.
The Office of Personnel Management announced the “Warm Up to Giving Food Drive” initiative to assist local food pantries facing severe shortages of non-perishable goods. Harvesters is Kansas City’s only food bank. Covering a 13-county metropolitan area, Harvesters provides food and related household products to more that 550 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes, homes for the mentally disabled and shelters for battered persons. Together Harvesters’ network serves nearly 60,000 people every week. Harvesters, founded in 1979, is a certified member of America’s Second Harvest, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, serving all 50 states.
The National Archives at Kansas City is one of 13 facilities nationwide where the public has access to Federal archival records. It is home to more than 50,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from the 1820s to the 1990s created or received by nearly 100 Federal agencies. Serving the Central Plains Region, the archives holds records from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The facility is located at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO 64108. The National Archives at Kansas City is open Tuesday–Saturday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. for exhibits viewing and Tuesday–Saturday from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. for research.
