2008 Constitution Day Poster Ceremony

Kansas City, MO…The Government Docs Kids Group sponsored it’s second annual Constitution Day Poster Contest on Saturday December 5, 2008, with a ceremony at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Kansas City (MO) Councilwoman Jan Marcason served as the keynote speaker and this year's reception was partially underwritten by Gumdrop Books, based in Bethany, MO.

The winners include: Alannah Thornton, 4th grade at Allen Village School, Kansas City, MO School District; Jacelyn Serrata, 7th grade at Allen Village School, Kansas City, MO School District; and Samantha Ragan, 12th grade at Main Street Academy, Grandview, MO.

This year's event was hosted by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and was a collaborative effort between the Museum, the Johnson County (KS) Public Library and the National Archives-Central Plains Region.

The Gov Docs Kids Group is made up of library and archive professionals whose goal is to educate the public about civic resources available to educators, students and parents.

The Central Plains Region is one of 14 facilities nationwide where the public has access to Federal archival records. It is home to more than 43,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from the 1820s to the 1990s created or received by nearly 100 Federal agencies. The Central Plains Region houses records from the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The facility is located at 2312 E.
