Science and Technology
During the war, government agencies like the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) contributed their resources and expertise toward war-supporting endeavors. While TVA created new power sources, like the Douglas Dam, and used its skilled cartographers to map the European theater, the Public Health Service worked to eradicate malaria and venereal diseases that crippled the combat effectiveness of the fighting force. Meanwhile, the War Department, through the Manhattan Engineer District, developed new technologies that facilitated the war's end.
