Welcome Remarks for the "Pelosi in the House" film premiere

Good evening and welcome to the National Archives Building.

We’re thrilled to have the premiere of the HBO Original Documentary Film––Pelosi in the House––here in the McGowan Theater. And we’re honored to have such distinguished guests here tonight, especially Speaker Nancy Pelosi, her daughter filmmaker Alexandra, and members of the Pelosi family.

Thank you, Speaker Pelosi, for your inspirational leadership, for being a role model for women in politics, and for your support of the National Archives over the years.

Many years ago, you attended an event at the National Archives, and I was dispatched to greet you––nervously––as you arrived at our loading dock. You were running late and moving quickly on some impressively high heels, but you stopped, looked me in the eye, shook my hand, and thanked me for being a civil servant. No one had ever said those words to me before. It was probably a small thing to you, but it had a big impact on me. It made me proud. And I’m incredibly grateful to be able to say thank you to you tonight for dedicating your life to public service.

Thank you all for coming tonight and I hope you enjoy the film.
